Artist Bio

Carol Stewart is a Berkeley CA based sculptor working in mixed media and found objects. Her work ranges from discrete objects to site specific installations. It has evolved over the years from painting and printmaking to sculpture.

Soon after earning her MFA from UC Berkeley she began teaching at the college level in Memphis, TN, where she taught computer graphic design, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture. She soon acquired a full time position as assistant professor of sculpture at Rhodes College. In this position, she began to extend her curriculum into the larger community through service learning programs which fostered collaboration among her students and inner city junior high and high school students, partnering with other disciplines at Rhodes to achieve these projects. After returning to California, she began teaching painting and sculpture at NIAD Art Center in Richmond, which serves adults with mental and developmental disabilities.
